Mr Stenhouse grew up in Washington, DC, where he practiced
architecture for a number of years. He subsequently moved
to Southern California to work with an earospace company
before taking over the management of an energy conservation
consulting firm. Now retired from these endeavors, he
focuses his career on watercolor painting.

As a youngster, he was a chorister at the Washington
Cathedral and was thus able to earn his tuition to St Albans
School. It was there
that he first studied under Dean Stambaugh, an accomplished
painter of landscapes, and continued his study of watercolor
painting between school and college with Prof Marion Junkin
of Washington & Lee University. At Princeton University he
studied under the internationally acclaimed sculptor, Prof
Joe Brown, as well as Profs William Shellman and Francis
Comstock. More recently he worked with renowned watercolor
painter Henry Fukuhara and studied with Hisako Asano, Prof
of Art @ the University of SoCal and Harbor College. His
paintings are exhibited in a number of public venues,
regional art shows, private galleries and international
exhibits throughout the US, in addition to private
collections.

Doug does nearly all of his freelance painting of
landscapes, seascapes, boats and house/church portraits
outdoors where he's best able to capture colors, values and
textures in his compositions. Though much of his subject
material is from Southern California, Doug paints
extensively up in the Central Coast of California, but also
in the Chesapeake Bay area, Delaware River Valley, New
England and Pacific Northwest.

He is a signature member of the Montana, New Mexico,
Kentucky and Philadelphia Watercolor Societies, as well as a
juried associate member of Watercolor West and the National
Watercolor Socity. He is an active member of Long Beach
Arts, San Pedro Art, South Bay CA, Torrance Artists' Guild,
and Cambria CA Allied Arts Assns. he is also a member of
